A Journey of Impact, Not Possessions

It’s been a great summer so far with many memorable experiences. We recently returned from a vacation to Boston, Massachusetts. It was a trip chock-full of new experiences: a Red Sox game at Fenway Park, immersing ourselves in the rich history of the city, and savoring delicious food like lobster rolls, oysters, and clam chowder.

Traveling like this reminds me a lot of financial planning. Just as we didn’t go to Boston simply to say we went, but rather to immerse ourselves in the journey and come away with new perspectives, financial planning isn’t just about accumulating wealth or possessions. It’s about the impact those resources can have on your life and the lives of others.

Think of the money you save and invest as the luggage you pack. While it’s important to be well-prepared, the true value of the journey comes from the experiences you gain along the way—the connections you make, the lessons you learn, and the impact you leave behind.

In the same way, a thoughtful financial plan is about more than just reaching a destination like retirement or financial security. It’s about ensuring that along the way, you’re able to support your loved ones, contribute to causes you care about, and make meaningful contributions to your community. The goal is not just to reach the end, but to enrich your journey and create lasting memories, just like our trip to Boston did.

True wealth is not measured by what you have, but by the impact you leave behind.”
