3twenty Modular

Tell us a little bit about yourself, your role in your business and about your company.

My name is Bryan McCrea and I am one of the Co-Founders of 3twenty along with Evan Willoughby. 3twenty was born out of a business plan competition at the University of Saskatchewan 11 years ago. Now, the company is a leading design-build general contractor that delivers projects using a modular building process. We are focused on providing turnkey building solutions to the commercial, education, institutional and industrial markets in Western Canada.

What is your company’s philosophy on Total Rewards?

One of our company’s main purposes is to “redefine the construction process through modular building process.” Our total rewards philosophy is focused on redefining the workplace in the construction industry. Not only do we offer a competitive compensation package with benefits and a matching RRSP contribution, but we also offer more flexibility for family life than a typical construction company. We have a lot of young families that form our team, and it’s important that our staff can be there for their spouses and kids, whether it’s picking up a sick kid from day care, being able to zoom into a class concert, or leave early to coach a game – family is first here.

Describe your culture.  Why is your company a great place to work?

3twenty’s culture is fun, collaborative, and supportive. From design and project management to construction, everyone on the team really gets to work together from start to finish to create beautiful projects. We are constantly trying to do better and be more innovative, which can only happen when everyone gets involved. One of our people said it best: “I get to come to work every day and build cool things with my friends. How can you beat that?”

What is something you are proud of about your company?

Evan and I often talk about this because it’s one of the things that motivates us every day. We are exceptionally proud of the people that work here and the families that this business supports.

Why does your benefits & pension plan matter?   What’s the impact to your business?

Our people are the heart of our company and we want to do what we can to make life easier for them. Providing a benefits & pension plan are one way we are able to help our employees grow with the company and plan ahead for the future.

What is your most creative/ unique reward or favourite workplace benefit?

We are not big on frills, so it may sound simple, but actually supporting our team’s ability to have a flexible work life so they can be good parents and spouses is one of our favourite benefits. Lots of companies say they are a “family first” type of employer, but just talk to our people and you will find out that we walk the talk.

What advice would you have for other successful growing Saskatchewan companies in recruiting, rewarding and retaining top talent?

Creating a work environment that is fun, positive, and rewarding has been the key to talent attraction and retention for 3twenty. When people enjoy coming to work every day and feel like they are a part of something special, they tend to want to stick around.
